You’ve got engaged – congratulations. The following weeks or months are going to focus all your attention on the Wedding. Like any 21st century bride, you will have to spend several hours on research especially looking on Pinterest to get the perfect picture of what you want and there are so many options out there to choose from it can be overwhelming. Rose Cottage Floristry can help.
From my professional experience, I decided to come up with a summary to help you through the maze that is wedding planning. There is usually a lot of information on the internet to help brides choose what they want during this time. You might have to spend countless hours looking for the right way to go about it. I have come up with a few starting tips that might help.
Firstly, get a folder, set up a spreadsheet and decide on a budget. These are the most important steps in your organisation. The folder is important for you to keep a pictorial view of the things that you would prefer and ideas that you might think of implementing during your wedding. The spreadsheet will aid keeping count of what has been done and the outstanding duties. The budget is important in helping you plan a wedding that is well within your limits.
Next, you ought to decide who will be in the bridal party. These are the men and women that will be of great support to you and your partner during this time – your groomsmen and bridesmaids. They will prove to be helpful regarding meeting vendors and also giving ideas according to your preference. It is advisable to select people that know you well and whom you can work with easily.
Make a rough list of guests, so you know the size of venue you need. The number of people being invited to the wedding will determine a lot of decisions after that. Other than the venue, it will also calculate the amount of food to be served, the amount of cake to be ordered, the amount of decoration for the place and how the guests are going to be seated.
When choosing the site, it is important to visit several venues physically. Surfing over the internet might provide a good representation of the actual place. However, the real situation might be different from the photos, or you might have seen an old photo. The venue should be chosen based on what you like and whether it fits into the budget that you have.
There are several options you could go with. These include tepees, barns, country houses, hotels, marquees, village halls, golf clubs, castles and unusual venues, such as pumping stations. Think about how many guests you will have and the sort of food you would like to offer them. You should also consider the atmosphere you want your wedding to create, e.g., a formal or informal setting. You should also note that if you book an outdoor venue also to book toilets.
When you have chosen a venue that you both like, you should then find out a couple of things. Find out some of the dates that are available to use the site and then find out when your officiant is ready (the person who will conduct the ceremony). You should also know the important guests that are attending your wedding. Once you have all these factors considered, you can then book your venue.
At this point, you should send out ‘save the date cards’ to your guests.
Next, comes a bit of research as you will need to find a florist, photographer band, caterers, MUA, hairdresser etc. Take a look at their style and see if it suits you.
Would you like the on-trend informal photographs? There are some amazing photographers. Take a look at the weddings they have done and see if you like their style. It is also important to consider whether they have two or more photographers, so they are both capturing different parts of the wedding day. It is useful for one to be with the groom and one to be with the bride during wedding preparations.
Makeup Artist (MUA) and Hairstylist
Normally, makeup artists and hairstylists have a multitude of events to cover, they are usually booked well in advance. Therefore, if you know who you want, you should book them as soon as you have the date. If you can’t book ypur preferred person do more research to find out who the best MUA would be for you. Not all hairstylists do hairstyles that would suit you. It is advisable that you first check with your favorite hairdresser. If they are not available for the wedding day, ask if they can make a recommendation. However, remember that if you never wear your hair up, you should probably keep it down for your wedding as well.
Some florists book many weddings on one day, and others specialize in only one wedding per day. You should have a look at their work, meet them and see if the florist understands your perceived theme, your likes, and dislikes. It is important for the florist to have an accurate picture of what you want so that they provide you with the right floral arrangement. Decide on a budget for your flowers; there is a guide on my home page that will give you some idea. It is the bridal party flowers that will be seen on all the photos – who has a picture of the table arrangements on their mantelpiece! My advice, if you’re on a tight budget is a lot of savings can be made on the floral arrangement for the tables.
The music played during your wedding will create the right ambiance for the different parts of the wedding. Choosing a group is therefore very important. Don’t book a band that you haven’t heard play before. Do make sure you know the style that they play, how long they play for, how long their breaks are and what they do during a break. Enquire whether they provide prerecorded music during these points to avoid prolonged periods of silence during the event. You could also put together a list of the songs that you would want them to perform.
There are so many options to choose from when it comes to catering. Personal recommendation is always best. It is also important to sample the food that will be served during the wedding before the actual day.
The above is just a little taster of planning a wedding. I do offer a service of helping you put together a plan and a timeline. The fee for this service is dependent upon your requirements and is independent of the Floristry service I offer – you don’t have to book both.
